Your Perfect Bedtime Companion for a Peaceful Night’s Sleep

Saddle up for a slow and steady journey into the most uneventful frontier you've ever encountered.

This collection of western-themed short stories is designed to gently guide you toward sleep with its calm, meandering tales of everyday life on the prairie—without the action, adventure, or drama you might expect from the Old West.

In these peaceful pages, you’ll find ranchers discussing the finer points of fence maintenance, townsfolk engaged in leisurely conversations about the weather, and stagecoach rides that proceed without a hitch—literally. With every page, you’ll be immersed in the rhythmic, predictable routines of life on the range, where the most exciting event might be the slow boil of a pot of beans or the meticulous polishing of a saddle.

Perfectly paced to lull your mind into relaxation, these stories offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Thoughtfully written to be just interesting enough to hold your attention—without keeping you awake—this volume is an ideal companion for winding down after a long day.

Whether you're looking for a new bedtime ritual or simply a soothing read, The Not-So-Wild West is here to help you drift off into dreamland with its charmingly uneventful storytelling.

Get ready to turn the page, take a deep breath, and enjoy the quiet comfort of the Not-So-Wild West.

A wonderfully original idea, perfectly executed

I had no idea what to expect when I picked this up. But, with a title like Really Boring Books, I had to try it out and see what was in store. I was quite surprised by the vividness of the scenes and the writing in general. I was hooked right away, with the first chapter dedicated to a day in the life of a tumbleweed. Another about an empty mine. The story is about ordinary things, with the purpose of getting you to go to sleep. A wonderfully original idea, perfectly executed.

Hilariously Boring – In the Best Way Possible!

If you love dry humor and intentionally dull storytelling, this book is an absolute masterpiece. The author brilliantly captures the most uneventful aspects of frontier life, turning mundane details into an oddly captivating experience. The commitment to being "boring" is so well-executed that it becomes entertaining in its own right. I found myself chuckling at the overly detailed descriptions of fence building and the excruciatingly slow pace of small-town life. It's the perfect book to unwind with—whether you want to appreciate the satire or need the ultimate sleep aid. Highly recommend for fans of unique, offbeat humor!

A Note from Gene Eric Nomen

Hi there,

I’ve always struggled with falling asleep. My mind would race, replaying the day’s events or planning for tomorrow. I tried reading non-fiction before bed, thinking it would be dull enough to put me to sleep. But instead, I found myself getting too engaged, learning new facts that kept my brain buzzing. Then, I switched to regular fiction, only to get caught up in exciting plots and cliffhangers that made me stay up even later.

That’s when I realized what I really needed—a book that was just interesting enough to hold my attention, but soothing and uneventful enough to let my mind relax. A book that was deliberately dull and beautifully boring.

That’s how Really Boring Books was born. These stories are designed to be wonderfully predictable, calming, and yes—delightfully dull. My hope is that they help you quiet your mind, relax, and drift off into a peaceful slumber, just as they’ve done for me.

Sweet dreams,
